RHONA BERENS, INC.

COACH  SPEAKER  AUTHOR

Rhona Berens, PhD, PCC

I am a Credentialed Coach who specializes in relationship systems (any combo of two or more people). My sweet spot is coaching couples who are navigating diverse challenges and life transitions. Parents are among those I help, including expecting and new parents, as well as those with kids and step-kids of all ages and stages. I also work regularly with business partners and co-leaders, plus other personal relationships, e.g., parents with adult children.

While relationships are my jam, I’ve coached many individuals over the last 17+ years. I maintain a few slots for parents solo without a spouse or ex and for leaders. Both roles are very relational in orientation, and ones that I hold or held—parenting in the first instance, leadership in the last. I know firsthand how complex, triggering, and important they are to navigate.

I prioritize humor, compassion, kind directness, and creating a safe space. I infuse that space with equity, compassion, respect for and curiosity about differences, and the importance of structure to help you learn, grow self- and other- acceptance, and change in ways important to you. My overriding goal is your fulfillment in whatever areas you prioritize. An important part of my style is that I often share relevant research from neuroscience (including neurodivergence, if applicable), attachment theory, couples/relationship research, the field of coaching, and sociology and psychology. While research is about trends and there are often exceptions, hearing that what you’re experiencing is often shared by others–or that it is uncommon–can be freeing, grounding, and, paradoxically, inspiring of change.

I also love public speaking and teaching, and have delivered lots of workshops to parents, birth professionals, educators, and teams. I’m a recovering academic—I taught at the University of California at Irvine for nine years—and a former senior executive and online business consultant. With my colleague, Tina Stanley, MSW, LCSW, I co-authored Fight Right for Your Baby: The How-To Guide for Expecting and New Parents to Shift from Conflict to Connection (2023).

I’m credentialed as a PCC through the International Coaching Federation, received my coaching certification from The Co-Active Training Institute (formerly The Coaches Training Institute) and completed the Organization & Relationship Systems Coaching program at the Center for Right Relationship. I am an Educator for the Gottman Institute’s Bringing Baby Home program and a Leader for their workshop, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.

I’m also a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, a Certified Trainer for SANITY SCHOOL® Live—Parent Management for those with neurodivergent kids—and a provider for the Enhanced Gottman Relationship CheckupI completed Level 1 of the Developmental Model Training Program at The Couples Institute, as well as advanced professional training by Jill Corvelli on the ND Compass, and attended Sue Johnson’s Hold Me Tight workshop.

Some of my additional trainings include: BeAbove Leadership’s Seven Levels of Human Relationship, and segments one and two of Neuroscience for the Advanced CoachI completed two programs at Coaches Rising: The Power of Embodied Transformation, a somatic coaching curriculum, and Neuroscience of Change, which applies neuroscience to coaching. I also trained in the Positive Intelligence curriculum and hold degrees in Communications & Media Studies from McGill University & UCLA.

I live in Northern California with my wife, two fiery teens–one is a young adult–our cat-obsessed dog, and our dog-harassing cat.
